CONROE, TX — In a thrilling high school football matchup on September 5, 2024, the Waller Bulldogs faced off against the Conroe Grand Oaks Grizzlies. Despite leading for a large chunk of the game, the Bulldogs ultimately fell short, losing 17-14.
The game, held at Buddy Moorehead Stadium in Conroe, saw the Bulldogs take an early lead after falling behind with a Grizzlies field goal. Their offense was in fine form, executing plays with precision and maintaining a strong grasp despite the constant drizzle in the region.

Freshman quarterback T.K. Gaines delivered an excellent performance, showcasing his potential with several impressive throws and strategic plays that kept the Bulldogs ahead for much of the game.
Brandon Stewart (1) was on the receiving end of a Gaines pass in the second quarter, putting the Dogs on top, 7-3.
However, Conroe would later answer with a drive, 10-7. Trailing by a field goal going into the fourth stanza, Gaines hands the ball off to junior Robert Carter (11), who then laterals the football to senior Brandon Stewart (1) to disorient the Grizzly defense and break through for Waller’s second touchdown with 8:43 standing on the game clock.
The Bulldogs’ defense also held strong, limiting the Grizzlies’ scoring opportunities and keeping the pressure on their opponents. However, the tide began to turn late in the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies, showing resilience and determination, managed to close the gap with a series of well-coordinated plays.
With just 4:08 left on the clock, the Grizzlies managed to score a crucial touchdown, bringing the score to 17-14 in their favor. The Conroe defense tightened up, making it increasingly difficult for the Bulldogs’ valiant effort to advance, as time ran out on the Bulldogs.

As the season progresses, both teams will look to build on this experience. The Bulldogs (1-1) will aim to bounce back stronger against a winless Westside team (0-2), while the Grizzlies (2-0) will seek to maintain their momentum. Fans can look forward to more exciting high school football action in the weeks to come.
